Giada Cloud Terminal F210U Brings Breakthrough Performance and Results to Digital Signage Solutions
Demand for more engaging signage fuels faster, more capable client platforms
May
24, 2018 – Shenzhen, ChinaGiada,
a provider of embedded PCs, embedded motherboards, server and storage
appliances, today announced the results of a three-month long trial run
showing that its Cloud Terminals F210U drove customer satisfaction of
Wanda Group up by 20 percent, as well as a 20 percent increase revenue
over the same period. Beijing-based conglomerate Wanda Group which
operates the world’s largest cinema chain, Wanda Cinemas, deployed a
signage solution based on Giada F210U. The media player delivered a
significantly higher level of display quality and flexibility, which
allowed partnered software solutions to run more engaging signage
content.
Huge opportunity and growing needs
Smarter, more robust signage clients couldn’t come at a more needed
time. Digital Signage Today notes that “2018 will see a huge increase
in responsive and automated content. Sensors on the actual displays, as
well as data feeds from computers and the web, will adjust content
according to real-world conditions.” This dynamic element in digital
signage reflects the tightening feedback loop between signage, client
systems, and cloud-based analytics. For example, retail signage
solutions with integrated cameras might feed patron traffic data to a
local application that correlates with real-time point of sale data.
This information, in turn, could relay to the cloud for comparison
against national sales trends. The resulting analysis could yield
changes to the images and information being shown to patrons, thus
influencing sales.
Inside Giada’s Cloud Terminal
Wanda Cinemas required a signage solution that could easily disappear
into the retail environment without sacrificing performance. Measuring
only 116.6 x 107.2 x 30 mm (4.59 x 4.22 x 1.18 inches), Giada’s F210U
met Wanda’s needs and more. The palm-sized PC offers desk, wall, and
VESA mounting options, and the single external antenna delivers stable
wireless connectivity without being intrusive.
At the Cloud Terminal’s heart lies Intel’s Atom x5-Z8350 CPU, featuring
four cores and a maximum burst frequency of 1.92 GHz. Despite this
speed, the processor boasts a scenario design power of only 2 watts,
which is why Giada’s thin client can run silently with no fan. The CPU
also houses the Intel HD Graphics 400 video engine, which integrates 12
execution units, supports DirectX 11 and OpenGL 4.0, and provides
dual-display output to the Cloud Terminal’s VGA and HDMI ports (up to
2560 x 1600 resolution). The Intel Atom x5-Z8350 can handle a broad
range of content spanning video and 3D graphics.
Giada also makes the Cloud Terminal easy to expand and connect. The
client features four USB ports (one USB 3.0), Gigabit Ethernet, RS232
serial, Mini-PCIe and SIM slots, a TF card reader, and either 32GB or
64 GB of onboard eMMC storage, depending on the model. Wi-Fi and
Bluetooth both come standard, and the F210U supports Windows 8/10
(64-bit), Android, and Linux operating systems for maximum solution
flexibility. It’s worth mentioning that the Intel Cherry Trail media
player is a reference design by Giada for Intel to suppport Android 5.1.
In sum, Giada Cloud Terminals gave Wanda Cinemas the computing,
graphics, and networking power necessary to fuel a next-generation
digital signage solution. With this foundation, software partners could
leverage Giada’s hardware capabilities and provide Wanda with a
compelling signage platform that yielded immediate and significant
benefits to the organization and customers alike.
